A good friend of mine Frank Strona has been working on a dissertation focusing on gay, bi, and trans men and sexual pleasure. Titled GayMenSpeak, he's collecting stories with the intent of "help[ing] support researchers and academics in developing a deeper understanding of the importance that sex and pleasure play for us from both a personal and health framework."
After talking with him about the project myself, I thought I would pass the word along here. You can read his announcement below, but if you'd rather just jump right in to the survey you can find it here.
I have been actively collecting video stories of gay and bi men’s experience of sex and pleasure as part of my dissertation project called GayMenSpeak. I am happy to share, that by next week I will have met my goal for the story collection part. But that means it is time to officially promote and recruit for Phase 2, an online based survey without any recording involved – and that’s where you all come in. I am asking that take you a moment and help spread the word about GayMenSpeak’s non-video Online Survey, which was designed to electronically and confidentially collect insights and comments from gay and bi men about personal perceptions of sex, pleasure and more.
How it works:
The GayMenSpeak Online Survey is a 2-part process. Part one serves as a simple qualifier. Asking basic demographic information and asking for the participant to agree to participate. Once completed, a personal identifier code is created to delink identifying information from part two of the survey. Part two is made up of a series of questions, which relate to recent pleasurable sexual activities of the participant, including a range of questions intended to explore the broader experience of our activities. The complete survey process should not take more than 25 – 30 min. I intend to keep the survey collection up until July 30th, 2014 and hope to exceed well over 250 respondents. The Online Survey is not limited by local geography – so emails and promotion can extend beyond the Bay Area.
Who Can Participate?
To participate, individuals must self-identify as being a gay/bi or trans-gay/bi male and having had sex with another gay/bi or trans-gay/bi man, be between the ages of 25 – 70 and have had sex within the last 3 months.
How You Can Help:
Please share the Online Survey link below and/or the flyer which I will send in a separate email, fyi - to make it easy, I add some sample language you can customize to make it easier and quicker for you to share/forward. The flyer can be shared, posted internally, or via social media outlets. I also have versions of the poster and postcards available - please let me know if you would like some. A web banner is available if you would like to post it on your websites - please let me know what specs you will need for it.
Thank you in advance for your support and yes - if you are getting this and qualify - you can also take the survey :)
